Highlights of the Week of September 30th

  • Tea and Poetry; Read “The Childrens Hour” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow from Favorite Poems of Childhood.
  • In Beast Academy we learned about Regrouping 10s and 100s. Reviewed counting to 1000. Practice pages online and/or in the practice book.
  • Reading aloud “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” by JK Rowling.
  • We started a review of the Ancient World Chapter 2, The Egyptians on the Nile with the Jewish People Chapter 6 in the Story of the World.
  • We started our Sea Monkey experiment Artemia Salina. We have adults and one death with a great ceremonial funeral in the garden. By the end of this week we have one sea monkey.
  • In our math story, the Life of Fred Edgewood, we learn about the definition of function, trapezoids and carrying the 1 in addition.
  • In our reading instruction, All about Reading, we start on Level 1; Chapter 33.
  • HWT Cursive Kickoff writing with a c-a-d page 11 and c ang g page 12.
  • Went on an insect hunt outside.
  • Group movement class on Mondays from 5-6 @ Together in Movement.
  • In practical life, Cecelia walks dogs and walks between 4-5 miles a week. This week she raked the back yard.
  • Read aloud passage from Writing with Ease for comprehension-Sacagawea-American Pathfinder.
  • In social and emotional learning, we talked about thinking thoughts and feeling feelings using We Thinkers Social Explorers and read “Thinking with our eyes”. Read the book “Hey Warrior” and talk about anxiety.
  • Read herself “Dogman,” Short Stories “The Runt Pig” and “Fish” from her primer.
  • Made a ceremonial mask and colored the picture for the Egyptians.
  • Look up images of Egyptian mummies.
  • Created a story called “Harry Potter and the Dungeon that has never been Found.”
  • Illustrating a story.
  • Cut out Greek paper dolls. We read aloud the Story of the Minotaur.

Highlights of the Week of September 23rd

  • Tea and Poetry; Read “Jabberwocky” by Lewis Carroll from Favorite Poems of Childhood.
  • In Beast Academy we learned about ones, tens and hundreds. Practice pages online and/or in the practice book.
  • Reading out loud “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” by JK Rowling.
  • We started a review of the Ancient World with the earliest people the Nomads. Chapter 2 in the Story of the World. Cecelia requested the story of Romulus and Remus.
  • We started our Sea Monkey experiment Artemia Salina and have hatchlings and give them food. Watch for maturation in 5-7 days.
  • In our math story in the Life of Fred Edgewood, we learn about obeying signs, evergreen and deciduous trees, the rhombus and parallel.
  • We are putting together a T-rex and talking about palentology.
  • In our reading instruction All about Reading, we start on Level 1; Chapter 32.
  • HWT Cursive Kickoff writing with a T and A pages 9-10.
  • Practiced upper and lower case letters and sentences.
  • Continue to discuss the different kinds of trees. Review alive and not alive and plants and animals.

Highlights of the Weeks of September 6th and September 16

  • We talked about our daily planner and expectations of the school day.
  • We started the school year off with field trips to the York Fair 9/7 to see the livestock and birthing animals and poultry.
  • Field Trip to Clyde Peeling Reptile Land.
  • Chapters 1 In Beast Academy we learned about pirate numbers (Place Value). Practice pages 7-11 online and in the practice book.
  • We have started reading out loud “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” by JK Rowling.
  • We started a review of the Ancient World with why we study history and the first nomads. Chapter 1 in the Story of the World.
  • We started our Sea Monkey experiment Artemia Salina and are waiting for them to hatch in 5 days.
  • In our math story in the Life of Fred, we learn about concurrent lines, squares, rectangles and parallelograms, what a billion looks like and ordinal and cardinal numbers.
  • We are digging out a T-rex (plaster) and talking about palentology.
  • In our reading instruction All about Reading, we start on Level 1; Chapter 30 and 31, we discuss the three leap words or, for and no and did a reading and matching activity.
  • We kicked off HWT Cursive Kickoff writing with a pre-test and same as capitals, pages 7-8.
  • We have started collecting acorns falling from the trees and have started sketching them in our sketchbook.
  • We have practiced sentences in our journal.
